This one is the latest from western digital and shortly became the best seller portable external hard drive.

The drawback I saw in this product is the interface cable from the drive it doesn't used the standard connector as the other portable drive does. Therefore, always keep your cable in a safer place. It doesn't have an extra cable for USB 3.0 and sold separately.

Using a backup files is significant to every computer user because no one know s when your hard drive will crash. Having a portable external drives like this is the fastest and easiest way to transfer huge files from one computer to another. The best thing is that, it can carry tons of data in a very small portable case. Despite of its small drawback compare to its usefulness this one is really worth.

(one) I can keep in mind when I was impressed by a 356 MB hard drive on my new computer. (Keep in mind those days?) Now here's this backup outside drive that is a terabyte, something that not so plenty of years ago was in the domain only of supercomputers that took up whole rooms. The impressive thing is that this is such a pleasant compact tiny drive, not much bigger than a deck of playing cards. I have used other drives for back up & have always avoided the back up program that came with some of them, fearing it would get in the way & slow things down when I am working or that it would take much time to figure out what to back up & how often to do so. As a result, I often forget to back things up, which could be a catastrophe if I ever had a hard drive failure.  

Now the nice thing about a immense outside drive such as wd external hard drive is that it's tons of space & I can back up everything & keep several copies. The program that comes on the drive installs in minutes & checks for updates for both program & firmware. wd external hard drive gives you a choice of what to back up & the choice of pausing backups when you are working, so you don't must worry about it getting in your way when you are doing something else. wd external hard drive was simple to enter password protection & comes with a manual on the drive that is simple to understand, as manuals go. You can also pick how plenty of backups to keep at a time & where you'd like those stored. The settings are simple to set up, even partitioning the drive in the event you pick to do so.  

I have used it for a few weeks now & not very notice it being there. wd external hard drive does its thing in the background & I can check the backups so I do know they are there. Using Windows XP, it puts a tiny icon down in the menu bar where I can check at any time to see how much space has been used, whether or not it is locked & if the temperature is OK. (two) This is the first time I have ever used a transportable (small) outside hard drive. I currently use a Cavalry dual disk outside drive in RAID configuration which is giant & not transportable.  

This new WD drive is fantastic in that it is little, doesn't need outside power, & it is nice looking. wd external hard drive is brilliant how they fit one TB drive in such a little package. bonus is that when I replace my computer in future with that has USB three.0 interface, this drive can handle that. (It works fine with USB two.0 also.) The tool looked & felt solid.  

The backup application resides on the hard disk of the drive. I didn't bother installing that application. I need to make use of the drive as plain elderly storage drive. I connected the drive to a PC with Windows 7, the OS complained with "WD SES Tool USB Tool - No Driver Found", but showed the drive contents anyway. I could immediately use the drive without haveing to do anything.  

The USB port that is on the drive appears to be proprietary, but it could be a standard port for USB three.0. The cable that comes with the drive fits snugly & works well. The cable ought to be saved carefully - I don't have any other cable with that specialized connector.

Used 565 MB  

Free 930 GB  

Capacity 931 GB  

I have split the one TB drive in to three partitions basically (using Win7's built-in tools). I copied a bunch of JPG files in to of the partitions. Everything went smoothly. I am yet to find any issues with the tool.  

I will update this review if I come across anything significant as I continue to use wd external hard drive.
